The MU-41105 exists to close one specific gap: the overlap between a trouser hem and a boot top. It is a small item that solves a disproportionate share of leg burns, because molten splash that lands anywhere on the leg runs downward and collects at exactly that junction.

At 9 in high and 12 in wide the gaiter wraps the boot top and the lower leg together, so splash runs off the outside instead of into the opening. Gaiters are also the item most often ordered on their own, by sites where the task is short enough that full trousers are not warranted but the floor is still hot.
