Description

The MU-41109 is the shortest of the three aluminized gloves at 14 in, the length that covers the hand and wrist and stops at the lower forearm. It is the version chosen where the sleeve is already doing the forearm and the glove has to come off quickly between handling operations.

The fabric changes here. Where the garments in this range use a modified acrylic over a fibreglass core, the gloves use an aramid fibre blend over a fibreglass core with an aluminium laminate on one side. The gloves are specified to EN 407 for thermal risks and EN 388 for mechanical risks, since a foundry glove has to grip and resist abrasion as well as reflect heat.

Q: Which of the three glove lengths should we specify?

A: It depends on what the sleeve is doing. At 14 in the glove covers the hand and wrist and comes off fast. At 16 in it takes in more forearm. At 20 in it reaches most of the way to the elbow and is specified where no sleeve is worn. Longer is not automatically better, because a long cuff is slower to remove and traps more heat.

Q: Why a different fabric from the garments?

A: A glove has to grip and resist abrasion, which the garment fabric is not built for. The gloves use an aramid fibre blend over a fibreglass core with an aluminium laminate on one side, and carry EN 388 for mechanical risks in addition to EN 407 for thermal risks.
