Retractable Belt Cone Toppers
MUSSE supplies cone-mounted retractable belt barriers from Taiwan in two spans and two colour markings. The topper drops onto a traffic cone and the tape clips to the next one, so a line goes up in seconds with nothing bolted, drilled or ground-fixed and comes down just as fast when the job moves.
Two decisions when specifying: span and colour.
The 3 m units cover a single gap between two cones and weigh 0.25 kg, so a supervisor carries several at once. The 9 m units close a driveway, a loading bay approach or a full lane in one span with no intermediate joins, at 0.9 kg in a larger cassette.
Yellow and black is the conventional caution marking: take care and go around, for an area being worked on. Red and white reads as prohibition: the line is not to be crossed. Sites that stock both issue them by hazard type.
Every unit carries a band brake system and 4.5 cm woven striped tape, and is specified for 3 kg traffic cones — our 71 cm PE traffic cone at 3.1 kg is the matching unit from our own range.

Q: Which span should we specify, 3 m or 9 m?
A 3 m unit covers a single gap between two cones, which suits a cleaning zone, a parking bay or an aisle end. A 9 m unit closes a driveway, a loading bay approach or a full lane in one span. The rule of thumb is that every join between short spans is a point where the line can be pushed apart, so a continuous run is better served by one long unit than three short ones.
Q: What is the difference between the yellow and the red tape?

Q: How do these compare with barricade tape on a roll?
Roll tape is cheaper per metre and is consumed on use. A retractable unit is deployed and recovered in seconds and reused, and it holds a consistent height on the cone rather than sagging between supports. For lines that go up and come down repeatedly, the retractable unit works out cheaper across a season.
